Walk in the Rain: The Secret For When Feeling Overwhelmed

It’s sounds stupid and messy, totally unnecessary- walking in the rain, that is. Don't knock it until you try it! It is surprisingly refreshing, invigorating, and my secret weapon when feeling overwhelmed.

We all have days in which we about lose it. We about lose our shit on the kids, the husband, the dog, boss, neighbor, the never ending to-do list, your sister. The list could go on and on.

We all have those days, the ones that just don’t end. I personally had one of those days last week. And I couldn’t take it anymore, I had nothing left to scream at my kids. I was so angry. They weren’t “getting it.”

Hindsight is 20/20 of course and realize I shouldn’t have lost it in the first place. Was I mad at them or myself? I digress, I felt as things weren’t going my way and was acting like a child throwing my own tantrum.

I know I’m not the only one that’s been there. Parenting is hard. Adulting is hard. There are so many factors that go into our days, and the kids cooperating is only a small part (but big!) part of it all.

I remember some advice regarding improving kids behavior within a few minutes: take them outside or involve water. I really wish I could credit where this advise came from, it’s amazing. Well, anyways, I did both.

We went outside for a walk and it happened to be raining. We ALL needed to get out. And the rain felt so good. It was more of a mist than a true rain, nonetheless, it was so helpful in improving everyone’s mood. We all got some exercise and fresh air, and walking in the rain brought an extra element of excitement for everyone that carried over into the afternoon.

It’s a different, unexpected activity that is sure to get everyone talking, including the neighbors! If the opportunity presents itself, try walking in the rain for a fun, spontaneous, stress relieving and mood boosting activity! Walking in the rain is one of the many suggestions in another post for rainy day activities with the kids. Check it out!
